Start your creative studio.

We had the chance to have a heartwarming conversation on our latest episode of Tiny Farm Friends Podcast with one such couple who moved to the Himalayas to build a slow life.

One loves talking to the plants and the other loves natural dyeing.

Meet Kriti and Ashish, the founders of Slowness Himalayas.

Together, they left behind their city lives to embrace a slower, intentional life in the serene mountains of the Himalayas in a village called Basgaon.
They now host travelers seeking a break from the fast-paced world.

Ashish, a former marketing manager at a construction company,
quit his job in 2015 to pursue a life of meaning.

He spent years volunteering across India,
learning about natural building and permaculture.

Along the way, he met Kriti.
Ashish was running a stay in Bundi and Kriti was on one of her work trips.
Kriti ran a startup, Miss Guide You, that organized women-led travel experiences.

Ashish wanted to live in the mountains and Kriti was willing enough to experiment.
They took their bike and went on scouting trips to different villages in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

They started with a checklist to identify a perfect land.
After a few bad deals, the checklist flew out of the window.

In 2019, just three days after their wedding,
they made the life-altering decision to move to the Himalayas!

Having no experience of living in a village, this move was not easy.
They embraced their differences and both of them approached the land differently.
There were snowstorms, landslides, and even tough moments of doubt—but their vision kept them grounded.

Ashish fell upon the idea of slowness when he came across the book “Slowness” by Milan Kundera. Since then he has dived deeper into the topic, read many books on slowness, and embodied the philosophy in their lives.

Ashish has his own definition of slowness — “To each his own pace.”

It took Kriti some time to slow down from a startup hustler to get in the rhythm of nature.
For her now, “the right pace is nature’s pace.”

Today, their home embodies this philosophy—a beautiful stone house built with the help of local masons, preserving traditional building techniques and patiently crafted over three years.

They believe their stone house isn’t just a structure but a living, breathing entity—
a family member they’ve nurtured with care.

In this episode, they share powerful insights on what it takes to embrace a slower life, the lessons they’ve learned from mountain living, and the beauty of becoming part of a close-knit village community.

Kriti beautifully sums up their experience, saying,
“Moving to the village is a huge responsibility, and people don’t realize it.”

Their story reminds us that slowing down is not only possible but often essential.

Tune in to hear Kriti and Ashish’s inspiring journey, their challenges, their joys, and what they’ve learned about living with intention and purpose. Whether you’re curious about mountain life, sustainable building, or simply slowing down, this episode is for you.

What You Can Read - Slowness by Minal Kundera

Milan Kundera's Slowness contrasts the fast pace of modern life with the richness of a slower, more reflective approach. Through intertwined stories, Kundera suggests that slowness fosters deeper memory and connection, while speed leads to superficiality and forgetfulness. The novel questions how rushing through life affects our ability to find meaning and satisfaction.
